Talking & Making
Contentious. Divided. Angry. Depressed. Uncertain. Lack of trust. Accusatory. Unsympathetic. Suspicious. War. Selfishness. Control. Power.
There is no doubt that our current culture is wading through these conditions. Add to these the tension of economic uncertainty and the cultural tone stiffens even more. How does one justify even giving a thought to the arts or creative endeavors in these times?
Does having conversations about art, beauty and creativity help address the difficult times we are in? Does putting our hands to making art or other creative endeavors do the same?
These are not new questions, but ones that need addressing/readdressing from time to time. In this second in a series of three talks, Kirk Irwin—the director of Friday Arts Project—will attempt to do just that.
